Foundation grant-making brings together scientific, medical, and related professionals with practitioners of Structural Integration (SI) at several levels to explore, define, verify and expand the scientific bases of Dr. Rolf’s concepts and their role in improving the human condition. It is agreed that the Foundation will abide by the following practices in accepting, reviewing and approving grants for research projects. Review the IPRRF funding policy »
- All research proposals must have qualified researchers representing the scientific and practicing fields of interest related to Structural Integration. The principle investigator of a given research project must be a scientific research professional associated with a non-profit institution or organization.
- The involvement of an SI practitioner-scientist is encouraged but not required for proposals for Foundation-funded research projects. The Foundation can refer interested scientists to such practitioners. Beginning researchers, whose only experience may have been as co-investigators and co-authors will also be included.
- All research will be conducted through grant agreements with non-profit institutions/organizations, which have in place the systems of human subjects protection review and fiscal controls to oversee the project conduct, or organizations, which can hire an external IRB to review the protocols of its researchers.
- All proposals will be subject to intensive review by a Review Committee organized by the Foundation’s Science Advisory Council. The members of the Review Committee will be chosen for their knowledge of and experience with scientific research involving the theories and practices of Structural Integration, or where appropriate, scientific expertise in mechanistic studies.
- Upon final grant decisions by the Board, the Foundation will negotiate terms of the grant agreement and expedite funding.
PROCESS PARTICULARS
The Science Advisory Council will advise the Foundation on the setting of research policies and priorities, and oversee the process of proposal applications, review and recommendations for funding. Example: The Review Committee will be instructed to follow review criteria as used in funding announcements of the National Center for Complimentary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM), of the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) in the analyses of project proposals. This is to assure, among other factors, the scientific merit of the proposed undertaking, the qualifications of the researchers and institutions, and the prospective usefulness of information sought in furthering public knowledge and understanding of Structural Integration. After review scores of qualified proposals are received from the Review Committee, the Science Advisory Council will determine the final average score and present their summary findings and recommendations to the Foundation Board. The Board will make final grant decisions based on, among other considerations, funding availabilities, terms of grant agreements and timing of potential benefits to the field of Structural Integration. The principle investigator will retain proprietary rights to the research, but will provide summary results for publication and presentation to the public according to the accepted standards set by the cooperating institution. The Foundation will ensure public access to the summary report in timely fashion. It is expected that the results of funded proposals will be published in peer-reviewed, Pubmed-indexed scientific journals. To ensure informed choices, the Foundation will call upon members of the President’s Council and/or Scientific Advisory Council for guidance on concerns, trends and special research interests in the field of Structural Integration. The President’s Council membership represents related organizations, schools and others immediately affected by research on Structural Integration.
