What personal data we collect and why we collect it
Online forms

The information collected from these forms is emailed to the Rolf Research Foundation administrator to process your travel award request or event suggestion. Your form entries are also stored in the website database. If you have used these forms and would like the information you entered removed from the database, please email your request to info@rolfresearchfoundation.org.
Bulletin Board
We save the information you enter on your bulletin board post in the website database. This is a public bulletin board, so anyone can view your bulletin board post, name, and email. If you would like your post removed, please email your request to info@rolfresearchfoundation.org.
There is an optional mailing list to be notified of new bulletin board posts. If you sign up for the mailing list, we save your name and email in the website database. You can unsubscribe from this list by clicking the “Unsubscribe” link on the bottom of an email from this mailing list.
Online course purchase
When you purchase the course Understanding Research Fundamentals, we save your name, billing address and email in the website database and you are given a website account. We use this information to send you information about your account and order, and to create an account so that you can take the course.
When you start the course, your quiz scores and course completion status are added to the website database. The course data must remain in the database while you are taking the course in order for you to complete the course and receive your certificate.
Only you and the website administrator can view your data.

Cookies
Cookies may be used on this website to give you the best browsing experience possible. A cookie is a message given to a web browser by a web server. The browser stores the message in a text file. The message is then sent back to the server each time the browser requests a page from the server.
If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

How long we retain your data
For users who have accounts on our website, we store the personal information you provide in your user profile. All users can see and edit their personal information at any time (except you cannot change your username) by logging into your account. Website administrators can also see and edit that information. See the next section “What rights you have over your data” for more information.
If you are taking the course Understanding Research Fundamentals, your course data is deleted from the database when your course access expires, which is 90 days after purchase.
If you posted to the SI Research Projects Bulletin Board, posts are automatically deleted 6 months after posting.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes. To view and remove your personal data: Log into your account, then click “Remove my data” from the sidebar navigation. If you are taking an online course, click “Access My Account” and then “Remove my data”.
If you would like your account to be completely deleted from the website database, please email your request to info@rolfresearchfoundation.org.
Additional information
How we protect your data
- We have automated backups of the website and database created twice/month and stored off-site, and retain 4 backup sets.
- We have a WordPress security and firewall plugin installed which detects and blocks unauthorized users from access to the website.
However, no website or Internet transmission is completely secure. If you have an account on this website, we urge you to take steps to keep your personal information safe: choose a strong password and keep it private, and log out of your user account and close your web browser when you are finished and on a shared or unsecured device.
Who we share your data with
We do not share your data. Your data is only used as needed for internal processing.
What third parties we receive data from
If you have taken the online course Understanding Research Fundamentals, we receive your course and billing data from the WordPress plugins LearnDash and WooCommerce.
Payments
We accept payments for the online course Understanding Research Fundamentals, and Donations, through PayPal. When processing payments, some of your data will be passed to PayPal, including information required to process or support the payment, such as the purchase total and billing information.
